What I Wish I Knew Before Becoming a Health Practitioner:

Why Wellness Matters More Than Perfection

When I first became passionate about health at 18, I was driven by a deep desire to learn, grow, and prevent the chronic illness I had witnessed in my family — especially my mother’s lifelong health struggles. That passion launched me into a journey filled with education, transformation, and purpose. But it also came with pressure. A lot of it.

I believed that as a health practitioner, I had to be the embodiment of perfect health. If I had even one symptom — a breakout, fatigue, bloating — I felt like I had failed. I thought I should have known better, done better, prevented it. Because practitioners are supposed to know everything, right?

Wrong.

The Pursuit of Perfection Is a Stressor — Not a Solution

For years, I chased perfection in every area of my life, especially my health. But I’ve learned that perfection is unattainable — not because we’re weak, but because we live in a flawed world. And ironically, the pressure to be perfect often leads to the very thing we’re trying to avoid: stress.

And stress, as we know, is at the root of so many symptoms and chronic conditions.

You Are Not a Problem to Be Fixed

One of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned — and now teach my clients — is this:

You are not a problem to be fixed. You are a whole person to be seen, heard, and supported.

When I work with clients, I don’t just look at lab results or food logs. I look at the full picture — your story, your emotions, your past experiences, your environment, and your beliefs. These elements shape your health just as much as your diet or supplement routine.

Supplements and Diets Are Tools — Not the Whole Picture

Yes, I use supplements. Yes, I guide clients through nutrition strategies. Yes, I run lab work. These tools are incredibly valuable. But they’re not the answer to everything.

Before we throw solutions at symptoms, we need to ask deeper questions:

  • Why are you bloated?

  • Why are you exhausted?

  • Why do you feel disconnected from your body?

These aren’t just physical issues. They’re often rooted in stress, trauma, emotional patterns, and years of being told to ignore your body’s signals.

Compassion Over Control

And I’ve had moments where I felt disqualified — like no one would trust a practitioner who didn’t “have it all together.”

But that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I’ve learned that my job is to do the best I can with the tools I have, while helping my clients with the valuable knowledge I’ve gained — without the pressure to be perfect. The body is incredibly complex and masterfully designed. We must give ourselves grace when we don’t have all the answers.

My Identity Is Not in My Health — It’s in Something Greater

Health is a big part of my life, but it’s not my identity. My identity is rooted in the fact that I am a child of God — and nothing can change that. When we place our worth in anything other than that truth, we stand on shaky ground.

Our bodies will go through ebbs and flows. That’s normal. And while I have many tools to support myself and my clients, I’ve learned that wellness is not about control — it’s about kindness, acceptance, and growth.

What You Deserve

You deserve to be seen. You deserve to be listened to. You deserve care that honors your whole self — not just your symptoms.

You are not a problem to be fixed. You are a person to be guided toward whole-body wellness — with curiosity, compassion, and support.
